Mighty Grocery Shopping List: Manage aisles

Aisles Activity allows you adding, hiding, renaming and sorting aisles (departments) in your Android shopping lists.

Aisles tab is accessible through Menu –> Settings –> Aisles.

Important note: selector on top contains lists with customized aisles only.

To change aisle order and/or delete aisles, click Lightning button to turn edit mode On. Grab the handle on the left of an item and move it to the position you want. Click Lightning again to turn edit mode Off.

To add a custom aisle, click Add button (green plus) and enter new aisle name when prompted.

To delete aisle long click the aisle and select Delete from Context Menu.

To hide aisle (from search and Pick list) click an aisle so that it is crossed out and hidden from Pick list and search. Clicking crossed aisle again will show it back in Pick list and search.

To rename aisle click the button on the right of the aisle to get to Edit Aisle screen. Then enter a new name for the aisle.

To sort aisles by name click phone Menu button –> Sort by name.

Customizing aisles per shopping lists

By default all shopping lists use the standard aisle configuration. Sometimes you may want to reorder, hide or create new aisles for specific shopping lists. The following scenario explain how to do such customization.

  1. Open Aisles tab with Menu –> Settings –> Aisles.
  2. Select a shopping list in top selector, OR
  3. Click Customize –> Select the shopping list you want aisles to be customized for.
  4. Activate Edit mode by clicking a lightning button.
  5. Make changes such as reorder aisles, hide/show, delete, add, or rename aisle.
  6. If you want to revert to the standard aisle configuration, click Reset.

Parent aisle

Parent aisle field is used to link aisles from customized configurations to aisles from Any list configuration. This may be helpful if you decide to customize aisles for a list to change aisle names and/or order, but still want to use the same set of products in Pick list.

For instance, imagine that Whole Foods list has customized aisles and there is a Bakery aisle in Any list.

Option 1: Bakery aisle of Whole Foods links to Any list’s Bakery. In this case any item/product assigned to Any list’s Bakery will be available for Whole Foods list under Pick list.

Option 2: Bakery aisle of Whole Foods does NOT link to Any list’s Bakery. In this case Bakery aisle for Whole Foods will contain its own set of items under Pick list.

Is there a way to keep multiple aisle lists, one for each grocery store, ie. Walmart,Target,A&P,etc and use the aisle list at the store I will be shopping at?

    • Alex says:

Hi John, thank you for your question.

Yes, it is possible to keep multiple aisle lists. Please see “Customize aisles per shopping list” section above.

Thanks and please let me know if you have any further questions.

I’ve downloaded your app and I’m a little frustrated. I’ve been looking through the User’s Guide but have had to no luck so far. My first frustation is when I add “tomato” to my grocery list it automatically gets put under the “Canned Goods” aisle, when I want it in “Produce”. How do I correct this? Also in the User’s Guide under the “Manage Aisles” heading it says in order to change aisles order or delete aisles, “click the Lightining button to turn edit mode on . Grab the handle on the left of an item and move it to the position you want”, but when I do this no handle appears and no matter where I touch on the line I’m not able to move anything.

    • Alex says:

Hi Jenni, thank you for your question.

To change item aisle, tap (>) on the right side of an item to open Item Details screen. Then tap Aisle field and choose the aisle you want for your item.

As to aisle reorder, please let me know if you click lightning button under Aisles tab? If yes, the button should become red and handles should appear on the left side of aisles as show on this image.

If the app won’t do it for you, please follow these steps:
      1. Go to Menu –> Settings –> Aisles.
      2. Tap Lightning button.
      3. Click Menu –> Settings –> Options –> scroll to the very bottom –> Send usage scenario.

Thank you for patience and hopefully this information would be helpful.

  3. Sonja Johnson says:

I have set up some of my I aisles as a “subset” of a parent aisle. Now when I set up a new item and assign it to one of those “subset” aisles it appears on the list under the parent aisle AND each of the subset aisles. This results in that one item being on the list multiple times. Interestingly… if you put it in your cart it is still listed multiple times, but appears to be added to your total $ once. Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?

    • Alex says:

Hi Sonja, thank you for your question.

Kindly note that this is sort of glitch. Normally the app should not allow multiple aisles of a list to be linked to the same parent aisle.

Parent aisle concept comes handy if you need to customize aisles for two and more stores but use a single set of items across the stores. Actually, the app implicitly keeps all items under parent aisle, allowing you to change name and sort order for derived aisles.

Hopefully this makes sense. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi,
Love the app. for some reason though, i can’t seem to get it to group list by aisles. It works fine on my wife’s phone, and syncs great, but on my phone the list just shows in alphabetical order. I made sure “group by aisles” is checked. Even tried unchecking and rechecking it.

anything you can suggest to try would be appreciated.

Recipes. Can you create a recipe with ingredients list and then select a recipe which adds the ingredients to the shopping list?

  6. Phil says:

How do I back-up my Pick list (now contains 353 items!)? I did not see my data on my phone’s Micro SD card.

Also, if I buy a copy of Mighty Grocery Shopping List for my wife’s phone and then do a sync, is my entire Pick List sent to her phone along with any items currently selected on the Shopping List?

    • Alex says:

Hi Phil, thanks for your question.

If you would like to backup your Pick list, I would recommend using the Sync with Cloud feature. This page also describes using List Sync feature.

Unfortunately, as of today only shopping list items and aisles will get synchronized with the other phone. However, your pick list along with all other data may be transferred to another phone if you backup your data on the “source” phone and then restore that backup on the “destination” phone using More –> Backup on cloud –> Restore from another account.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  7. Mike Olson says:

The order of my custom aisles are no longer showing up in the shopping list. I’ve tried resetting it and reconfiguring with no success. Please help!

    thanks,
    mike

    • Alex says:

Mike, do you mean your items no longer grouped by aisles? If yes, please make sure your shopping list has Master list check set to off like this.

Looking forward to hearing if you need further assistance.

  8. Brenda says:

Somehow I lost the Aisles in my Groceries Shopping List but it shows up in my other lists. What have I done wrong?
    Thanks

    • Brenda says:

Also, I’ve seen comments about a search but where do I enter a search to find a item entere?

      • Alex says:

Brenda, thank you for your question.

Currently by “search” we mean ability to add items to shopping list by typing initial letters of a product. More advanced search feature is planned for future releases.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    • Alex says:

Brenda, please make sure that Master list check is set to off like this.

Looking forward to hearing from you again.

  9. alysia says:

Is there a way to hide or delete a
    department in an aisle list,
ie clothing in the department list for
    groceries? Thanks.

    • Alex says:

Alysia, thanks again for the question. The page is updated to address your question.

To sum up: yes, there is a way to do it. First, you need to customize aisles for specific shopping list by selecting shopping list on the toolbar, and clicking Customize. Secondly, clicking on any aisle will cross it out. As soon as aisle is crossed out, it won’t show up for the shopping list in search and Pick list.

Note: As of Beta 6*, recent changes to the app has affected the above behavior. Pick list won’t respect aisles invisibility on Aisles tab. This is going to be fixed with update planned this week.
