Mighty Grocery Shopping List: Manage aisles

Aisles Activity allows you adding, hiding, renaming and sorting aisles (departments) in your Android shopping lists.

Aisles tab is accessible through Menu –> Settings –> Aisles.

Important note: selector on top contains lists with customized aisles only.

To change aisle order and/or delete aisles, click Lightning button to turn edit mode On. Grab the handle on the left of an item and move it to the position you want. Click Lightning again to turn edit mode Off.

To add a custom aisle, click Add button (green plus) and enter new aisle name when prompted.

To delete aisle long click the aisle and select Delete from Context Menu.

To hide aisle (from search and Pick list) click an aisle so that it is crossed out and hidden from Pick list and search. Clicking crossed aisle again will show it back in Pick list and search.

To rename aisle click the button on the right of the aisle to get to Edit Aisle screen. Then enter a new name for the aisle.

To sort aisles by name click phone Menu button –> Sort by name.

Customizing aisles per shopping lists

By default all shopping lists use the standard aisle configuration. Sometimes you may want to reorder, hide or create new aisles for specific shopping lists. The following scenario explain how to do such customization.

  1. Open Aisles tab with Menu –> Settings –> Aisles.
  2. Select a shopping list in top selector, OR
  3. Click Customize –> Select the shopping list you want aisles to be customized for.
  4. Activate Edit mode by clicking a lightning button.
  5. Make changes such as reorder aisles, hide/show, delete, add, or rename aisle.
  6. If you want to revert to the standard aisle configuration, click Reset.

Parent aisle

Parent aisle field is used to link aisles from customized configurations to aisles from Any list configuration. This may be helpful if you decide to customize aisles for a list to change aisle names and/or order, but still want to use the same set of products in Pick list.

For instance, imagine that Whole Foods list has customized aisles and there is a Bakery aisle in Any list.

Option 1: Bakery aisle of Whole Foods links to Any list’s Bakery. In this case any item/product assigned to Any list’s Bakery will be available for Whole Foods list under Pick list.

Option 2: Bakery aisle of Whole Foods does NOT link to Any list’s Bakery. In this case Bakery aisle for Whole Foods will contain its own set of items under Pick list.

When managing aisles, if I select an aisle the name is struck through (as in the font). What exactly is the point of this, from a functionality stand-point?

    Thanks,
    Sonnenblume

    • Alex says:

Hi Sonnenblume, thanks for your question. Kindly note that aisle is crossed out if “Show in Pick list and Search” option is OFF for aisle. As the name suggest, the aisle will not be shown in Pick list or in Search if its name is crossed out.

Thanks and please let me know if you have any further questions.

  2. Ian Hocking says:

is it possible to sort the aisles from z-a as well as a-z?

    • Alex says:

Hi Ian, thanks for your question.

It is possible to sort aisles alphabetically in Menu –> Settings –> Aisles –> Menu –> Sort by name. However, it is only possible to sort a-z.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you again.

  3. Linda says:

Regarding Aisles, I seem to have found my lost grocery list with the proper aisles, listed under “automatic picks”. How can I get that to be my default page when I open this app?

  4. Linda says:

I’m also struggling with the aisles problems. I had my grocery list all set up by aisles, and they somehow disappeared and everything is listed alphabetically. When I go to settings, the aisles checkbox is checked. I’ve read the FAQ’s and can’t figure out how to get them back. HELP???

  5. Bill says:

I’m not at all clear as to the purpose and functionality of the “parent aisle” setting, and I’ve not found much in the documentation. Can you clarify?

  6. Karen says:

Ok, I added a new aisle. For example I added an aisle named “baby”. How dow I add say…. water, diapers, wipes, ect under the new aisle named baby?

    • Alex says:

Karen, it is possible to add items in shopping list and then assign a new aisle to that item. After the first checkout, the item’s aisle will be stored in history for future use.

Alternatively, you could add items and assign aisles in Menu –> Settings –> Pick list –> My picks. This way items will be immediately available in Pick list.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  7. Karen says:

Is there a maximum number of custom aisles you can add?

  8. Alessandro says:

    Hi,
Mighty Grocery is great but sometimes I’m feeling lost.
Now the aisles in my pick list have disappeared!
I’ve checked the option menu where I can decide to show or hide aisles and I’ve changed it several times but nothing happens. My pick list is still without aisles.
Why? Is there some other way to make my aisles appear back again?
    Thanks a lot.

    Alessandro

    • Alex says:

Hi Alessandro, thank you for your feedback and your question.

      Please check the following:
      1. There are aisles listed in Menu –> Settings –> Aisles.
      2. There are items assigned to the aisles of the shopping list which is selected on top of Pick list.
      3. Will aisles show up if you tap the Lightning button thus switching Pick list to edit mode?

Please let me know if you need any further help.

      • Alessandro says:

        Hi,
I found it! It was an error of mine!
Basically where there is to chose the pick list a set a couple of them as preferred, so the aisles inside them disappered.
I don’t undertsan why but at less I know how.
        Thanks a lot!

  9. Lia says:

I love this app. I use it every time I go grocery shopping. I have read through the guide and have followed the instructions. I have set up my list for Loblaws to correspond best with the way I shop there; however, when I click on list and change it to Loblaws, the order of the aisles are not the way I have them custom ordered. I have double checked the aisles tab and they are still configured the way I want them, but it still puts housewares ahead of bakery and bulk items in the actual Loblaws shopping list when I click on list.

    • Alex says:

Hi Lia, thank you so much for your feedback.

I suspect aisles for Loblaws store have customized configuration, but when you open aisles tab, “Any list” configuration is presented to you. I would recommend the following:

      1. Go to Menu –> Settings –> Aisles –> tap “Any list” on the top –> select “Loblaws”.
      2. Tap “Reset” so that Loblaws shopping list would use “Any list” aisle configuration; OR rearrange aisles so they would match Loblaws store layout.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

      • Lia says:

Does this mean we can’t customize our aisles per store? I was hoping that I could arrange Loblaws the way I shop there and Walmart specific for when I shop there, etc.

      • Alex says:

Lia, you can customize aisles per store. Under Aisles tab switch to “Loblaws” or any other list and rearrange aisles. If your store is not listed in selector, tap Customize button and choose the list you want to customize aisles for.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  10. Vince says:

    Hello

I’ve read through your user guide and I don’t believe this question is answered. It may not even be possible.

What I would like to accomplish is to have one grocery item associated with multiple aisles. So for example let’s say I shop at a couple of different Wal Marts. Depending on which list I add the item to will determine which aisle it will be listed under.

So lets say I add chocolate syrup to my list. If I add it to WalMart X, I want that item to list under asile “A3 – Condiments”. If I list it under Walmart Y then I want it to show up under asile “A5 – Condiments”. As you know all Walmarts aren’t laid out the same and I would like to be able to know exactly which aisle my item is located depending on which walmart I go to.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you
    Vince

    • Alex says:

Hi Vince, thank you for your question.

Unfortunately, assigning items to different aisles in different stores is planned later this year. But your request may be accomplished using the following configuration of aisles:
      1. “Any list” aisle configuration contains aisle “Condiments”
      2. Walmart X has customized aisles. Aisle “A3 – Condiments” has “Condiments” as parent.
      3. Walmart Y has customized aisles. Aisle “A5 – Condiments” has “Condiments” as parent.
      4. Wlamart X / Y aisles may be sorted independently, but they will share all items since they have the same parent.

Please see Manage aisles User’s Guide for more details.
